Deep breathing: 2nd stress management tip

Deep breathing is another simple technique that you can practice when you feel frustrated and stressed. You start with the inhalation phase. Then you take a slow deep breath from your nose and you visualize the air coming from outside, through your nose to deep in your chest. Then you hold for 3 seconds, you exhale, get the air slowly out of your chest, and at the same time, you visualize the air getting out of your chest gently, through your nose.

You may want to deep breathe couple of times each time, and do it couple of times per day. This exercise you may do at any time and any circumstances.

Progressive Relaxation: 3rd stress management tip

Progressive relaxation is a part of hypnotism but may be done by itself. You need to be in comfortable position; the best position is lying down on your back, hands lying down from each side. You need to start relaxing on your neck muscles, and then you need to relax your hands, legs, back. You need to focus on the relaxation of your muscles

Visualization: 4 th stress management tip

Visualization is very similar to Self-hypnotism. If practiced regularly may become your best stress management tip. It sounds a little bit difficult initially but when practiced regularly is extremely effective and easy to do.

Imagine what your ideal best day in your life would be. Your eyebrows relaxed, half-closed. Imagine yourself in your best day using as many senses as possible. Imagine that you see yourself in this place, with whom you are with, the smell, the sounds around you, what you feel. Then open your eyes and bring all those feelings to the present.

The first time you are practicing it may take you some time, but later on you will be able to induce those feelings in only seconds.

My own visualization: I imagine myself on a sandy beach, great weather, relaxed, hearing the waves, with my love leaning on my chest, my kids playing quietly in the smell of the nature. I use all my senses: Vision, audition, smell and touch. The only sense that I do not use is the taste.

My vision is completely fiction: I am single and have no kids! Maybe when I get married, I will be visualizing myself single, away from kids, lol…

Relaxation Music and Subliminal audio CDs: 5th stress management tip

There is specific relaxation CDs that you may buy for $20-$30. You may also use subliminal hypnotic CDs. These audio CDs have nice relaxing music and contain relaxing messages that you do not hear transmitted to your subconscious mind. In order for you to benefit from subliminal CDs, you must listen to them repetitively for couple of weeks, play them in the background when you are eating, working and sleeping.

Hypnotism: 6th stress management tip

There are 3 types of hypnotism:
  • Hypnotism with a hypnotherapist
  • Hypnotism using a hypnotic CD
  • Self-hypnotism

Hypnotism is based on using deep breathing, followed by progressive body relaxation from head to toe, and then you either hear suggestive relaxation messages from your personal hypnotherapist or through a hypnotic CD.

Self-hypnotism is simply: deep breathing, progressive body relaxation from head to toe, then instead of listening to relaxation messages, you suggest to yourself those messages.

The easiest way is to get a good hypnotic CD and listen to it on a regular basis, if you do not have time, you always can listen to it before going to bed, which would probably induce you to go to sleep. Your subconscious mind listens and receives the messages even better when you are asleep.

Hypnotism has already been proven to be effective is many conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome and back pains. It is gaining more and more interest in the main stream medicine.

Exercise: 7th stress management tip

Aerobic exercises can be very helpful in inducing relaxation through secretion of chemicals in our brain called Endorphins.

Yoga also is an excellent way to relax.

Nature is your friend: 8th stress management tip

When you feel frustrated, outdoor activities, when the weather allows, can be very effective. It can be as simple as taking a walk around the block or better around the lake. The sight of water and trees has powerful relaxing and soothing sensation. Walking at night in South Park in Manhattan does not qualify for this purpose!

Avoid sugar and cafeine: 9th stress management tip

Many people have the bad habits of eating sweets and chocolate when they are frustrated. It has been perpetuated as a concept by the media!

Eating sugars, chocolate and abusing coffee most of the time lead to obesity, which aggravates stress and leads to depression.

supplements to avoid: 10 th stress management tip

  • Ma Huang or Ephedra
  • Guarana
  • Synerphine
  • Yohimbine

Those supplements are used frequently in weight loss products to boost metabolism. Synerphine works like a weak Ephedra but it is more selective on the tissues, and it doesn’t seem to have the side effects on the heart but it will aggravate stress-related issues due to its sympathomimetic actions.

Vitamins and minerals for Stress adaptation : 11th stress management tip

Those particular vitamins are required at high demand for people at high stress because they are involved in the pathway of synthesis of Stress hormones: Cortisol and Catecholamines.
  • Vitamin C
  • Thiamin
  • Riboflavin
  • Panthotenic acid

Taking B vitamins by themselves helps replenish the body to keep up with the demand but by themselves has not shown to help reduce the feeling of stress and anxiety.

  • Magnesium:

Magnesium supplements has shown in clinical studies to help lessen feelings of anxiety and overall stress.

Basically, a good multivitamin with adequate amount of vitamin B complex, Vitamin C and magnesium is recommended.
